According to the Soureh Cinema Organization, a collection of films produced by this organization, under the theme Family Portrait, will be showcased in collaboration with the Korean Film Archive, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Seoul, and Soureh International Center. The screenings will take place from September 23 to 26 at the Cinematheque Hall of the Korean Film Archive.
The program features four works from both acclaimed filmmakers and the new generation of Iranian cinema: The Painting Pool directed by Maziar Miri, Angels Come Together by Hamed Mohammadi, and In the Arms of the Tree, the latest film by Babak Lotfi Khajeh-Pasha. The opening film of the festival will be A Cube of Sugar directed by Reza Mirkarimi, which will be screened on the first night along with the official opening ceremony.
A common theme across these four films is their humanistic and social perspective on life in Iran, offering Korean audiences an opportunity to discover a fresh angle on Iranian culture and art. The title Family Portrait reflects the centrality of family relations in Iranian cinematic narratives, a theme that consistently bridges tradition and modern life in Iran.
This festival not only presents a new introduction of Iranian cinema to international audiences but also signifies cultural exchange and growing closeness between the people of Iran and Korea through the art of cinema.
